Leadership & Advocacy
Anas Mohammad Shaikh serves as the Imam and Executive Director of the Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier since January 2013. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Shaikh is deeply committed to building a vibrant and inclusive community. He is known for his expertise in community development, Islamic theology, and interfaith dialogue, and actively promotes social justice and human rights.
Scholarship & Education
Shaikh memorized the Holy Qur’an by the age of 11. Under the mentorship of Imam Kasim Kopuz, he pursued advanced studies at Darul Uloom Al-Madania, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Theology in 2008. He further studied in Pakistan, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Islamic Law & Finance from Darul Uloom Karachi under scholars like Shaykh Mohammad Taqi Uthmani. His education covers various Islamic sciences including Arabic, Aqidah, Tafseer, Fiqh, Hadith, and Usool.
Community Service
A lifelong resident of the Binghamton area, Shaikh collaborates with non-profits like the Broome County Council of Churches, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and the Southern Tier Independence Center. His commitment to interfaith dialogue is reflected through his active participation in the Binghamton University Interfaith Council (BUIC) and the Johnson City Interfaith Association.
National Impact
Shaikh is a respected national speaker, delivering lectures at various Islamic centers and university MSAs. He has spoken at major conferences like ICNA and Helping Hands for Relief and Development. He founded the Imams Association of America to support professional development among Imams and established Muslim Life of Binghamton, Inc., a non-profit supporting Muslim students at Binghamton University.
Philanthropy
Shaikh was a founding board member of the New York Chapter of A Continuous Charity (ACC), providing scholarships to Muslim students. He also volunteered for Kids With Vision, focusing on childhood blindness, and served as a judge for the Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) while mentoring Young Muslims of America.
Mentorship
To enhance access to Islamic resources, Shaikh founded KhutbahNotes.com, a free platform providing accessible khutbahs for Imams. He mentors numerous Imams across the U.S., emphasizing effective dissemination of Islamic teachings and strong religious leadership.
Personal Life
Shaikh resides in Vestal, New York, with his wife and six daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, engaging in sports, technology, and travel. His hobbies include woodworking, watching sports, and family road trips, showcasing his dedication to personal growth and family connection.
